23 First Nations across southern Queensland and northern, north west, upper western and western New South Wales gathered in Canberra yesterday for today's signing of a Multilateral Treaty between these First Nations, which affirms each Nation's independent sovereign status.

These Aboriginal Nations within the Murray-Darling Basin are taking this action to affirm their continuing sovereignty and the fact that their Law, culture, customs and spirituality is the Law of the Land on and within their borders.

The signing of the Multilateral Treaty will take place at the site of the original Aboriginal Embassy, established in 1972, opposite Old Parliament House, Canberra.
