Embassy protesters want heritage listing

Members of the Indigenous Tent Embassy in Brisbane have used NAIDOC Week events to call for Musgrave Park to be heritage listed.

Spokeswoman Karen Coghill says the park, which is in the south of the city, is the only cultural and traditional gathering spot Aboriginal people have in Brisbane.

"We want the whole of Musgrave acknowledged," she told AAP on Friday.

"Musgrave Park is a drop in the ocean of what we got robbed of."

Ms Coghill spoke at NAIDOC Week celebrations in the park.

The festival is one of the state's longest-running festivals and is in its 21st year.

In front of the stage was a tent embassy banner reading: "Spirit of the Embassy; 40 years on and what do we have?"

In May, tent embassy protesters were controversially moved on by police to make way for a popular Greek festival.

Indigenous Affairs Minister Glen Elmes told AAP he has not been approached with a request for cultural heritage listing for the park, but would be happy to take advice on it.
