First Nations Passport

Brief History: In 1980's Tasmanian First Nations activist Michael Mansell introduced an Aboriginal Passport which was issued to get a delegation into Libya in 1988. Everything went well until they returned home, where they were detained by immigration officials until they produced the Australian invaders documentation. The 'Aboriginal Provisional Government' continued to issue Aboriginal Passports into the 1990s.

Other First Nations passports have been issued across Australia since then. Robbie Thorpe, a Victorian Activist has been issuing passports to non-Indigenous people and refugees in Melbourne for several years    See Video. Passports holders have had success when using them in most countries. The various passports issued around Australia can be worded differently but always express First Nation Australians sovereignty.

In 2012 the Indigenous Social Justice Association (ISJA) has been holding Aboriginal Passport ceremonies in New South Wales. On the 15 September 2012 ISJA held a 'Welcome to Aboriginal Land Passport Ceremony' and issued a passport to WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange, which was accepted on his behalf by his father.
