John Pilger: How the Murdoch press keeps Australia’s dirty secret

‘Nigger Hunt’ by Murdoch Media

Murdoch Media are targeting Aboriginal woman Tarneen Onus Williams in a modern day 'Nigger Hunt' because the Melbourne Rally she was involved in, and all of the other Rallies, are becoming a major threat to the continuation of the neo-colonial celebration on 26th January.

The targeting of Tarneen is a example of what John Pilger was talking about in this 2011 article - about how this mega media outlet has been targeting Aboriginal people. [node:read-more:link]

NSW Bar Association calls for a new approach to Aboriginal imprisonment

ABORIGINAL INCARCERATION

The Bar Association of NSW's submission to a Law Reform Commission inquiry into First Nations incarceration calls for a new approach to sentencing which takes into account the deprivation and disadvantage inherent in an individual's Aboriginal background. The association also calls for an end to mandatory sentences, which make it impossible for courts to make any allowance for such disadvantage in their decisions. The rate at which Aboriginal people end up in jail is appalling and in NSW last year Aboriginal people were 3 per cent of the population, but 24 per cent of the prison population. A call for solidarity: Many minds can locate the true pathway

Michael Anderson

If we truly want to establish a process of asserting our sovereignty then we must cast aside personalities and differences. This is not about gaining personal notoriety or fame because not one person has all the answers, but many minds can locate the true pathway. For of all we need to recognise flaws in our own personal makeup. Do we truly understand what colonised minds look like? We must first look at ourselves as oppressed people because oppressed people must understand that they are themselves their own examples of oppression and unfortunately when we go through the education and enculturation processes of the colonial States, we miss so much of our own ancient teachings and in doing so lose our self-awareness of who we truly are. Tony Abbott's Summit on Constitutional recognition a Pinochet or Hitler type moment for Aboriginal Peoples

This Recognise campaign is about securing the head of power to govern over Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples. It is not about securing our rights or freeing us from racial discrimination. Ghillar Anderson responds to mainstream media referring to PM Tony Abbott's suggestion he would deal with any right wing opposition to First Natiions peoples in the Constitution 'with love' – a Mandella type moment. Instead Anderson calls PM Tony Abbott's Summit on Constitutional recognition with 40 Indigenous 'leaders' a Pinochet or Hitler type moment for Aboriginal Peoples. [node:read-more:link]

Government's establishment of First Nations Assembly at Native Title Conference

There are warning bells ringing across the continent regarding this week's proposed Assembly of First Nations establishment meeting in Port Douglas at the National Native Title conference hosted by the Australian Institute of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies. Participants to the exclusive meeting to establish an Assembly of First Nations were invited by the Australian Human Rights Commission, under the auspices of the AIATSIS National Native Title Conference as late as 3 June 2015. It appears to be a very subtle way of diverting attention away from the real sovereignty of our Peoples. [node:read-more:link]

Police cause ugly confrontation with Aboriginal people at Canberra ANZAC Commemoration

Organisers of the undeclared Frontier War's parade today, during the Canberra ANZAC day parade condemned the actions of the AFP for refusing to allow 200 Aboriginals and their supporters to peacefully march up ANZAC Avenue to lay a Wreath to Commemorate all those who died in wars, including those who died in the 18th, 19th, and twentieth century Frontier Wars defending their country. Ghillar Anderson said the AFP demonstrated appalling behaviour at the Frontier Wars commemoration March and that he would now seek advice in respect to whether what had happened constituted an act of racism. Noongar peoples 3 times the suicide rate of national Aboriginal & TSI suicide rate

After 230 years of our children being stolen, locked up and tortured and having their culture devalued, it’s little wonder that many don’t see any value in their own lives

The Noongar peoples of Western Australia as a distinct population group are the nation's most at risk population group to suicide. The suicide toll among Noongar people has tragically reached the highest number of suicides of any Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander population group. Of Australian cities, Perth is recording the highest number of First Nations' suicides.
This year alone thus far Perth's Armadale to Midland corridor has recorded double the number of suicides than the whole of the Kimberley region's suicides. [node:read-more:link]
